Everybody loves flowers. Whether it’s receiving a beautiful bouquet or walking past a garden full of gorgeous blooms, flowers make us happy.

Bring that energy and fresh, natural beauty into the house with flowers and greenery.

Here are my top tips for picking the perfect flowers for each room in your home.

Set the mood

Waking up to the sweet smell of fresh flowers on your bedside table is a simple luxury that we can all create.

As with every space, consider the colour palette in the room and keep to soft, restful shades for a bedroom and flowers that have a subtle fragrance.

Glass vases of medium height are perfect filled with hyacinth, peony roses and hydrangeas – some of my favourites for the bedroom.

If you can’t decide which flowers, pick two and have them sitting together in different sized vases.

Private oasis

A living plant in the bathroom is a must and my all-time favourite has to be a cluster of orchids planted in moss. Orchids add instant elegance to a room and they seem to love the humid darkness of a bathroom

Succulents are another great choice for bathrooms and maidenhair ferns look beautiful in a basket or ceramic pot.

Create a centrepiece

Create drama in living and dining rooms with huge arrangements of flowers or branches.

I love creating a centrepiece for the dining table of three large vases, all different heights, filled with whatever flowers are in season at the local market or even better, from my own garden.

Keep it real with eucalyptus, blossom or olive branches straight from the backyard and spilling and cascading out of a vase on your mantle – it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Generous bunches of lilies in a tall vase are a fragrant classic and fiddle-leaf figs or bamboo palms sitting in a washable paper bag give the living room a hit of green freshness. Mix up the vessels used for each display by including glass, ceramics, metal and wood for added visual interest.

Kitchen greens

There are so many options for greenery in the kitchen. Lemon branches not only look beautiful, but smell amazing, and small jugs or pots of fresh herbs are perfect for an island bench.

Little posies of gardenias or lavender look gorgeous in a beach or country house, and one or two green leaves leaning in a clear glass vase is simple and beautiful for a contemporary space.
